Day 29.

Day 29, 366 Project. Picture # 29. "Aftermath". This is what a once vibrant healthy forest looks like after the devastating Bastrop County Complex Fire burned last September. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastrop_County_Complex_fire . It is very hard to imagine the size and the power of this fire. There is nothing left alive in large sections of these areas. The earth has been scorched to bare sand and rocks. Canon Rebel XTI on tripod. 18-55mm lens. Focal length 18mm. f/22. ISO 400. Exposure 1/30 second.
Over 1600 homes burned. There are the charred remains of homes everywhere. I chose not to take any pictures of of these scenes. These were people's homes and in some cases everything they owned was lost and some even lost their lives. This simple picture of a plate will serve as the reminder to me of what was lost. But there are signs of renewal, homes are being rebuilt and plants and some new leaves are adding the color green back into these monochromatic landscapes. Canon Rebel XTI handheld. Canon 75-300mm lens. Focal length 300mm. f/5.6.ISO 400. Exposure 1/2500 second

  1. I just drove through there today. Even all of these months later, it is still very eerie.

Keep posting your pics -- I am really enjoying them.

  2. Aftermath belongs to another world. Eerily so. The plate is haunting. From a technical standpoint the focus is beyond sharp.
